Arthur Meier Schlesinger


Nació el 15 de octubre de 1917 en Columbus (Ohio).

Hijo de Elizabeth Harriet Bancroft y Arthur M. Schlesinger, un historiador con influencias de la Universidad Estatal de Ohio y la Universidad de Harvard.

Cursó estudios en la Universidad de Harvard, donde fue profesor asociado de historia de 1946 a 1954 y profesor titular desde 1954 hasta 1961.

En 1952, 1956 y 1960 fue miembro del equipo electoral del candidato presidencial del Partido Demócrata. John Fitzgerald Kennedy, lo nombró asesor especial.

Posteriormente escribiría un relato sobre su gobierno: Los mil días de John F. Kennedy en la Casa Blanca (1965; premio Pulitzer en el apartado de Biografía, 1966). Dimitió en 1964, poco después del asesinato de Kennedy.

En 1967 fue profesor de humanidades en la Universidad de Nueva York.


Autor de La era de Jackson (1945; premio Pulitzer en el apartado de obras de Historia, 1946), La era de Roosevelt(1957), Política de esperanza (1963), Una amarga herencia: el Vietnam y la democracia americana (1967), La presidencia imperial (1973), Robert Kennedy y su época (1978) y Los ciclos de la historia americana (1986).

Arthur Meier Schlesinger falleció en Manhattan, Nueva York, el 30 de octubre de 1965.
